How to Find PAs to Shadow

Hi! I am looking to expand my PA shadowing beyond the one ER PA I have shadowed. However, I have only lived in the city where I currently reside for three months so I do not really know anyone to ask. I feel awkward e-mailing or calling strangers and I don't want to cause anyone to feel obligated. I do volunteer in an ER here but, again, the ER is the one area that I have covered. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,
I understand where ur coming from. I also had a hard time at first but i first called different PAs and I was told no by ALL! and then i wrote them a really good letter explaining what Im doing now and my goals in life and I would say about out of the 6 PAs 5 said Yes.
I know what you mean when u say \"obligated\", but seriously they loved it when I shadowed them. And I have gotten great information from them!

Hello elvapeterson,
well I just went to google and typed in Physician Assistant in my area and a list came up. i went from there on. but if you still can\'t find a PA to shadow, look out to see the PA schools around your area. Just call there and ask if they know of any PA\'s. I know this might sound crazy at first but you never know what you might get.
as for hrs, for few of them i did 6-8 hours (I had lunch with one) and the others i did half a day like 4 hrs. im not so sure what you mean by part time shadowing, for me shadowing lasted only one day. some of the PAs said i can come and shadow them (which i will do in the winter break) and for few they were so busy in their office when i shadowe then that i haven\'t heard from them yet.

Shadowing can be once, or it can be every week for a few hours. Same with volunteering. Check with the schools that interest you to see what they prefer - and then call it that.

Yes finding PA's to shadow is quite a task and I too have been facing problems. Any tips will be helpful.

I too was face with issues when finding PA's to shadow. when i was searching for a opportunity I put on some slacks and a dress shirt and nice tie and printed updated copies of my resume. With this I decided to visit every local office and hospital and talk to any manager possible and try to explain to them my purpose. I found a place in Bartlett, Il that was willing to let me do a 6 week internship. Hopefully this is helpful.
