Retaking Courses

Post by gbaca3 » Sat May 06, 2017 4:27 am

Hi there,
I am graduating with a bachelors degree in Psych however I have completed all of the prerequisites to PA school. I will have to retake Organic Chemistry 1 though because I received a D in it so there is no choice but to retake that class. That will be done at a community college. However, my issue is that my science GPA is low (about 2.5 or 2.6) because I have received a lot of C's in classes such as Bio 1 and 2, biochem, and microbiology. I am wondering if I should retake any (if not all) of those classes to get a higher grade or should I just take other science classes that I have never taken before such as genetics or molecular biology for example? I am aware that retaking them will not really boost my science GPA all that much but I thought it would look better then just receiving a C.

Any help would be really appreciated here. I am really lost right now on whether to retake those classes or not or to just take new science classes.

Thank you!

I am in a similar situation as you. I have chosen to retake a couple classes in order to better prepare myself for the material that I'll be presented with in PA school, (Anatomy and Phys I and II). However, for this cycle, I am going to prepare upper level courses in order to prove that I am capable of navigating the material and succeeding. From my research this I have drawn that this may be the best path to making up for a weak GPA, though I am also open to other opinions.

Retaking is the best option. But you could pace yourself. It's better to prepare well. Get your course notes. Take the help of a friend who has done it. Or you could subscribe for some online help. Just make sure you are well prepared.
