Prerequisite Coursework over summer or HCE EMT class.

Post by rkgPA » Wed May 23, 2012 9:26 pm

Hello everyone,
I really need advice, I am extermely confused so all the advice and input i get i would really appreciate it.
I am currently enrolled in EMT class at my community college for the summer session, however, at the university I am going to I am majoring in Sociology and the biology/chem department won't let me minor in bio or chem. but a lot of PA schools I researched into require Biochem and Genetics. A near by Cal State is offering these two classes over summer. But the problem is EMT class
overlaps the genetics and biochem class. What do I do? Take the biochem and genetics or the EMT. They both have pros/cons, but i just really need someones advice who has gone through this problem.
Pls help me.

I understand your dilemma, but I have a strong opinion for you:

Take biochem or genetics.

I say this because having a bachelor's degree is an imperative in today's society, and very VERY soon, it will be an admission requirement for all PA schools. PA school is essentially a graduate degree, but it hasn't been written into law yet by the NCCPA - but it will, before you know it.

Get that degree, along with the prerequisite coursework for PA school.

THEN, focus like a laser on health care experience. Incidentally, it will be easier to get a health care job if you have that completed degree.

So, first things first: coursework, then HCE.
