Majors

Post by JA2303 » Sat Mar 01, 2014 2:51 pm

Hello,
I am a junior in highschool and am nearly certain in my decision of becoming a PA. I am already beginnning to take AP classes for college credit and I have taken honors my entire highschool career. With a 3.9 GPA, I am hoping to get several scholarships, but I am having trouble choosing a BS degree prior to PA school. I have talked to concelors and other medical teachers, but the only guidance they have given me is pile on Chemistry, Physics, and Biology in highschool and get plenty of medical practice outside of school. I have read other blogs concerning majors that include choosing majors that intrest you and choosing something that can be related to becoming a PA, but I would like some examples of good majors to begin looking for prior to PA school.
Thanks!

We have articles on this (go to the main page - www.mypatraining.com) and scroll down the right side to getting into PA school - but here are some additional thoughts.

1) start with a group of majors that you like. If that's a hard science, fine. In not, don't confine yourself to sciences or you'll be unhappy.

2) pick something that relates to medicine if possible. Fine arts are probably the least relevant. Political science is another nonstarter.

3) More than anything else, because grades are key: PICK SOMETHING YOU WILL DO WELL IN. If you're torn between two majors, pick the one you are most likely to do well in gradewise.
