Kindly guide towards appropriate steps to take

Hello everyone, I am a medical graduate from a foreign country want to apply for PA SCHOOLS. I LIVE IN CALIFORNIA. I WOULD NOT DENY having attempted residency route but have taken few years to figure out the broader scope that comes with a pa. It completely fits my personality to practice surgery,medicine and obgyn if I want to, and mostly focus on the patient care only no other things to worry about.
My passion is to treat patients and to get there, I am willing to do what ever needs to be done. I will really appreciate if any successful applicants on this forum kindly guide me as to which pre req are basic, which secondary. How many schools to apply is safe, will I be a competitive applicant, anyone know schools who take applicants like me. I have given GRE and TOEFL and want to complete pre req this year to be ready to apply next year. Will my med school internship count as he. I have research experience and clinical experience in US with publications in journals. Kindly advice me what helps and what doesn't.
