Do I need a new Bachelors Degree??

Post by aubrey89 » Sun Jul 20, 2014 3:27 pm

I currently hold a BA in Psychology. I finally figured out what I want to do in life and that is to become a PA. My GPA for my bachelors isnt that great. I got a 3.12 gpa. If I do good in my pre-requisites, and do good with gaining healthcare experience, should I not worry about getting a whole other bachelors degree in something close to pre-med? Like a BS in Nuc Med, Biology or anything medically related??

I just want to do it right this time. Im 25 years old and rushed to finish my AA and BA degrees and I just want to slow down and do it correctly...now that I know what I want to do in life. :D Going from a Criminal Justice major to Medical is a little bit confusing to me....any help is greatly appreciated!! ;D

Aubrey: I definitely would not encourage you to get another bachelors degree. It would be a huge time and money suck. Instead, get the best grades you can in all of the prerequisite courses for PA school and apply. If you have trouble getting in, you might consider doing a postbaccalaureate degree, but these can be long and expensive as well.

This has been a huge issue for me as well. I have a masters in psych, but have had to go back to school and to essentially get an associates in biology/chemistry. I've also noticed that some schools have upped their prerequisite load, some by as much as 16 hours (Now they require bill 1,2, genetics, and college algebra).

It's frustrating to say the least.
