PA: Physician Assistant OR Physician Associate
Re: PA: Physician Assistant OR Physician Associate
I don't like either. I prefer APC: Advanced Practice Clinician.
Re: PA: Physician Assistant OR Physician Associate
I think the name Practitioner Associate is appropriate as it correlates to the Nurse Practitioner description/comparison and falls within the definition of NP, and PA's being Mid-Level Practitioners.
Re: PA: Physician Assistant OR Physician Associate
I definitely like associate over assistant. If we would change the name I think that's a good option because the popular initials PA would still be there.
Crazy thought: Physician Assistant to "Medical Practitioner"
Crazy thought: Physician Assistant to "Medical Practitioner"
As in any profession, I feel PAs need respect from both patients and fellow healthcare workers. With the name "assistant," it is VERY confusing to those unfamiliar with what they do. When I first told my mother I was going to be a Physician Assistant instead of a MD she was very disappointed, until I actually explained to her what PAs do and how skilled they actually are.
I believe a name change to Physician Associate would be somewhat better, but I personally would prefer the name MEDICAL PRACTITIONER.
Medical Practitioner reflects the job description better. Does anyone agree, or am I the only one? I saw this name in another forum and thought I would share!
The only thing is that changing the initials from PA to MP may be confusing after so many years being called PAs... Still worth a shot! Now the thing is to bring a suggestion like this to someone with power.....
