While on the alternate list....

Hi all! I am new to this forum but was recently wait listed at my number 1 school and haven't heard back yet from the other I applied to. Any advice as to what to do during the grueling waiting game? I have thought about more shadowing, volunteering and possibly getting some type of certification (EMT/CNA etc) to stay fresh in the field. Thanks in advance!

Wow--congrats on wait list at your first choice school. When is the deadline(s) for your other schools of interest?

Quick - it\'s not too late: MAIL IN A THANK YOU NOTE FOR YOUR INTERVIEW!

Sounds like no big deal, but putting your name back in their heads could push you over the top. Reference something you talked about during your interview, or something they said to you so that they might remember the conversation. After you\'ve done this, it\'s out of your hands.

Thank you buffchic!! Seems like getting on the alternate list means there is still a sliver of hope so I am gladly wearing my alternate list badge

I have only applied to the two schools in state because I haven\'t given much thought to applying elsewhere. I know it limits my options and if it doesn\'t work out this go around I will research other schools for next cycle.

pkubin - I already tackled the thank you note! That went out 2 weeks after my interview. Now it seems like there is something I could be doing but it\'s just a waiting game I\'m learning. I did read that it may be a good idea to send a letter once I have added more shadowing or HCE to update them and reiterate why I am a good fit for the school and that I would absolutely attend if chosen. We will see!

When sending a letter to update additional shadowing or new credentials--is this something suggested to do after an interview or before a deadline has passed? And did you do so, and if you did how did you address such in your letter? It always feel awkward to me when I write....\"Here is an update on me and my accomplishments.....\"
Does anyone have comments or feedback on such?

buffchic - when I interviewed at a school they advised us to keep them updated via mail or email with anything we have done in addition to what is on our application. I haven\'t updated anything yet - but since I am on the alternate list at the school I plan to add to my HCE and shadowing and I would say at the end of December or early January i will send them a letter of intent with my updated info and that I am still interested in the school. They keep it pretty informal but it couldn\'t hurt to update any schools I would imagine and add to your chart for the current cycle or even for next cycle.
