Hi Everyone,
Recently I have done an extreme amount of thinking regarding my future, and what career would suit my personality and desires in life best. I have concluded that being a PA is exactly what I look for in almost every category I made for myself, be it the human interaction, how I would get to challenge myself everyday, the constant need to learn more about new medicines, and most importantly, the fact that what I would be doing is extremely fulfilling and important to my community.
Currently, I am one year away from finishing my BBA at a business only school in Northern Michigan, with a major in Aftermarket Management (the automotive industry). I was more or less forced down this path by my parents... I also have a great GPA (3.91) a good job in my career field, which I can't stand.
I am meeting with a rep from the PA program I hope to get into, as well as contacted just about every physician and physicians assistant I can find to be able to shadow them.
My biggest worry is that none of this will be been possible or realistic due to me starting much later than most, and with relatively no science courses completed (aside from psychology) or health care experience. I am only 20, but I would love to hear what you guys think, and any advice you may have! Please let me know!
- A Future PA (hopefully)
**EDIT** - I've always had an interest and desire to go into the medical field, but I just recently found out about being a PA. So, this decision wasn't just "hmm, maybe I'd like medicine?", just to clarify!
Too Late to Become a PA?
Re: Too Late to Become a PA?
Hi,
Just to clarify it is never too late to become a PA. The average practicing PA is probably in mid 30's. You will have to go back and take classes to fulfill the pre-requisites and most definitely gain some direct patient care experience. Go online to CASPA.org, look at the participating programs, figure out what school you are interested in and then look at that schools requirements. Each school may have different requirements. You will have to write a narrative and that will be where you tell them basically "why you want to go PA school". I hope this helps!!
Good Luck!!!!

You are definitely not too late! I'm applying this year and am 36. With 13 years experience as a dietitian I decided I wanted to do more for my patients. Good luck!!!

I'm 40. Do you think a parent with kids prior to applying to a PA program will be able to do the PA program successfully?
