Level of autonomy as a PA?

Post by S_882 » Thu Feb 28, 2013 12:10 am

I've looked through this forums and through some of the articles on this site and I don't think I have come across topics regarding level of autonomy. So, I was just wondering as a PA, how much autonomy do you have?

It depends what specialty you go into, but overall, you will have a lot. As a primary care and urgent care PA, I usually have all the autonomy I want; in fact, I'm usually wishing I wasn't out there all on my own, as it usually feels. But 90% of the time, I don't need any help or oversight.

PAs in surgery, while they aren't watched over, have less. This is because they are often following a surgeon's direction. But they still do plenty on their own.
