Writing your own letter of recommendation

CASPA requires applicants to obtain 3 letters of reference/recommendation. How do you go about it? Suggestions? Questions? Put them here.

Writing your own letter of recommendation

Post by Mik » Fri May 16, 2014 1:18 am

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to this forum. I am in the process of applying to PA school and stumbled upon a problem.
I shadowed a PA for 3 month and requested her to write me a letter. She told me to write my own letter and if needed she will make any corrections and changes.
How do I go about that? ??? How do I start?

Thank you

I *hate* it when references ask people to do this; it's lazy and puts the student in a bind. It's not ideal, but it's not technically wrong or against the rules, since she will approve it before putting her name to it. Write an accurate but complimentary letter and then let her see it.

I've got one of these, but at least it's for a doc I worked for for 2 1/2 years. Still tough. I was coming here to find the list of questions they are asked on evaluation since that seems like a good approach. I can write at least one paragraph on each of those. Here is the thread with that: http://www.mypatraining.com/forum/sourc ... n-t26.html
