An important part of becoming a PA is obtaining some health care experience (HCE). Questions about HCE go here.

Question... Can someone who has had medical assistant jobs train to become a PA? What kind of training would I have to do?

Of course, Frank. Medical assisting is a common pathway to gain experience in medicine. To make yourself a viable candidate for a PA program, you\'ll need some to a lot of healthcare experience, depending on the school to which you apply.

From here, I\'d suggest you check out our thread on the steps to becoming a PA. It should answer all of your questions.

Thanks,

Paul

Today there are wide variety of career opportunities for medical laboratory assistant graduates. They can pursue career paths in private diagnostic testing, public health, hospital and veterinary laboratories, the food industry as support technicians, and in physician’s offices and clinics. So altogether its a successful career with good scopes.

It is essential to be medically assisted when you have a problem and not to do any self-medication.

Medical assisting background can be a good way to learn clinical skills in a physician setting. There are practices that will mentor and hire medical assistants involved in pre PA settings. They are usually open for hire for the 1000 -2000 hr clinical pre req needed for PA school. A letter of recommendation is usually provided after completion of the set hours .
There is an internal medicine practice on long island New York that offers this opportunity.
