Excellent examples of HCE hours to counter poor GPA

I am an older student applying to PA programs hopefully in the spring. My undergrad GPA is killing my application. There is not much I can do to change it without taking an absurd # of credits. I have however taken over or taken for the first time all the necessary pre-reqs which I have done very well in mostly a's and a few b's, b- in Orgo and micro though :-/. Course wise plan is to take Orgo 2 this spring and biochem next fall and get an a, to show I can do it. What my real question is what kind of HCE/ volunteering would someone recommend to make my application better and help the poor grades earlier in my education. Currently I have been a patient transporter for 6 months, hope to make a move to becoming an nursing aide soon, have shadowing experience in the OR with a neurosurgical PA, also shadowed a othoropedic surgeon in office, as well as some volunteer experience in a Physical Therapy department of a Veterans hospital. Would spending the $$ and getting a phlebotomy certificate to become an ER tech? Need a little guidance in this area. Thanks!!
