Steps to PA school from nursing school

Post by Selay » Wed Jun 11, 2014 6:40 pm

Hello,
I'm currently a nursing student in Canada. I'm almost done my first year as an Registered practical nurse but sadly I do not see myself as a nurse in the future because I want to be able to do more in the health care field, learn more about the human anatomy, I mean we are learning pharmacology/pathophysiology but there's only so much we can do as nurses, no offence to anyone but personally I would like to diagnose and prescribe medications to my patients and give them positive feedback towards a healthier life . Therefore I did a little bit of research and came across the PA program which i feel is perfect for me, and I wanted to know what are some of the steps and procedures that I can take in working towards acquiring all my perquisites. Also I'm planning on my finishing the registered practical nursing, which is 2 years, and I will be moving to U.S afterwards. Any help and guidance would be greatly appreciated

Have you considered nurse practitioner school? I think that is more common for nurses, as it is basically the same as PA... Give or take.

If you have a bachelor's in nursing, then NP school is probably a good option, too!

You basically should contact all the schools that you are interested in applying to and make a list of the requirements. You probably already have many of the science prerequisites completed for nursing school. Then it's just about getting plenty of healthcare experience wherever you can, the more directly with patients the better.
