I have tried to plan my applications (taking prereq, shadowing, volunteering, attend PA session) 1.5 year ahead and review the deadline periodically. At this time I have completed all prereq, have more than enough HCE hours, more than enough shadowing hours, volunteer hours(could have more) and I will be asking for recommendation lettera(my reference already knew i would ask them) next Monday. I will be changing to part-time job next month to start preparing on applications. All 5 programs(except one) go thru CAPSA and have deadlines between Sep-Nov.
However, I just found out today, that one program's deadline moved from Sep 1 to July 15. My bad the last time I check their deadline is few months ago and I have been extremely busy from work. This program has an 'orange' deadline:
"Applicants must have a complete date on or before the deadline date. A complete date is given when an application is e-submitted and all transcripts, payments, and at least 2 letter of reference have been received by CASPA and attached to the application. Documents should be sent several weeks prior to this dates to ensure items arrive on time."
What should I do? Although this is not my first choice but i feel like I am not going to make it. I can write a personal statement in a few days, but do I have a chance to correct it after the deadline ? I mean..will CASPA only accept one personal statement (and one submission only) for all programs? I might be able get 2 letters on time, but properly not until end of this month. Also, is the letter submitted electronically or in form of letter(traditional format) ? How should I tell my reference if it has to be sent electronically? That will only be 2 weeks prior to deadline. CASPA said i should mail everything few weeks ahead. Can I do a fast mail like UPS overnight? OR should I just give up this program?
I am a little confuse with the blue, orange, and green deadline difference after reading it several times . Can some of you kindly explain to me ? Sorry for the long question but your response is much appreciated!!!!
Please help! Unexpected change of deadline
Re: Please help! Unexpected change of deadline
This is simply my opinion and what I have read while doing my own CASPA application, so do with it what you want.
The references are all done online. Once you set your references up, CASPA sends them an email with log in info and they do a letter and a bunch of other stuff all online, so I don't think that that part would be problematic as long as your references complete everything on time. Personally, I asked mine two months in advance and am STILL waiting for one.
In regards to the personal essay - it is not a formal letter that you mail in. Again, it is also online. However, you want to make sure that you give yourself ample time to write it, re-write it, send it to others for suggestions, etc.
In the end, there is no "good" decision, in that either option is not ideal, so weigh your options. It should depend on how much time you can devote to your application and how quickly your references can get their part done. In addition, have you had your transcripts sent? That does take some time.
Good luck!
