Opening a CASPA account before planned app cycle

Post by AGH1 » Sat Jan 05, 2013 5:38 am

Hey everyone,

I am brand new to this forum and website but so far I am feasting on all the excellent information made available to newbies like myself! I am a senior in college and will be applying for the 2014 cycle. I had read that it is a good idea to open up a CASPA account before the application cycle begins in order to acquaint oneself with the format/requirements before applying. What are the potential repercussions (positive or negative) of heeding this advice?

Thank you!

I was just reading this advice as well, and I went ahead and registered with CASPA. They sent me a confirmation email that included:

"Welcome to the CASPA April 2012 - March 2013 on-line application! We hope that you will find this application easy to use and understand. Please note that this application will be active from April 2012 to March 2013 ONLY!"

Now does this mean that I will have to re-register with CASPA (since I want to apply for 2014 admission) or can I still use the account I just registered, but it just won'tbe active between March 1, 2013-April 1, 2013? :o

Hi sid510,

I read under FAQs of the CASPA website that if you didn't mail out your application through the service you will have to create a new account with a new email and password etc. From what I understand, if you have submitted/mailed your application to schools through the service during one cycle you are eligible to have your information imported for the next cycle without having to open a new account and reapply but you will be issued a new CASPA ID. Since you just opened an account you can pretty much roam around and explore the application until March when you won't be able to access it any longer (taken from the FAQs). After March a new account will have to be created and all information resubmitted and a new CASPA ID will be given for the 2014 cycle beginning in April.

I think this answers my own question as well so I may give it a whirl. Thanks for sharing your experience and I hope this helps!

@AGH1,

If you have opened a CASPA account before your application cycle, how has your experience been so far? And, do you recommend doing so? I was considering it!

Thank you!
